When Connor was 6 weeks old, Colin came home from work and said he was presented with an interesting/unbelievale offer. Move to Dubai for at least 1 year! Dubai? Yes, as in the UAE. While the thought of going to Dubai was certainly exciting/scary/crazy - how were we going to do it with a 6 week old? After careful consideration, Colin decided to turn down the opportunity and continue his law practice right here in the good old US of A. Fast Forward.
3 months ago Connor celebrated his 6 month (half birthday), Uncle Neal turned 28, and I am guessing most of the readers of this blog did something for Valentines Day. A LOT has happened since then. I am not really sure where to begin . . . but maybe I should start with Colin going to get a root canal (finally), heading to work, getting to work, and then getting laid off. Now, I know that over 600,000 people lost their jobs in February - but I never thought it would be Colin. He works harder than pretty much anyone I know - so it was both surprising and devastating for us. Not to mention that the root canal was clearly not the worst part of his day. That was exactly 3 months ago.
We did some soul searching and job searching. I should mention for those of you who don't know - I didn't return to work after my maternity leave. So all this soul searching and job searching left Colin, Connor and me home alone TOGETHER! All Day! I wouldn't trade it for the world. Colin was home to see Connor crawl for the first time, pull up, stand and cruise! At this rate, he will also be home to see him walk!
Since Colin is a real catch (clearly I thought/think) so! Not surprisingly employers thought/think so too (great minds!). Colin had several offers to choose from when he finally made a decision . . . .
We are moving!!!! We have been so busy packing/staging (HGTVing) our house to put on the market/trying to remember what day it is so we don't miss our flight to Key West for my cousin Matt's wedding that I really haven't had a chance to make a post -really I haven't. In addition, last Thursday night we went to the Club for dinner. I usually have the veggie quesedilla (there aren't too many veggie options) but for some reason last Thursday I decided I would have the Roasted Vegetable Wellington (essentially roasted veggies in a puff pastry). Well, I had had it once before (actually the night Colin got laid off - but I digress). When I got home I thought I had burnt my lip on the food - but no big deal - I had a nice glass of white wine after Connor was asleep and was ready to wake up and start packing on Friday. Friday morning I was sitting at the computer trying to get documents together for our mortgage application and I noticed a few red VERY ITCHY bumps on my right elbow. Weird - but not that weird.
It must be said that our cats are very afraid (for some reason) of our printer. So as I was scanning/printing documents, Aubie walked across the keyboard to take a closer (yet still at a distance) look at the printer machine. I really didn't need him stalling out the computer at this point - so I smoothed out his beautiful orange fur and then picked him up to set him down on the floor. OOOOOCHHHHHHHHH! the little brat scratched the *(*^&*%^$ out of my arm (yes, the one with the bumps)!!! So, I really freaked out - thinking how horrible this scar/scratch was going to be in Key West (sadly this turned out to be the least of my problems). After Colin calmed me and Connor down we started packing and getting a move on. I started to notice MORE bumps (but only on my right side) - WEIRD. I decided to take a Benadryl (but only after I had seconds (leftovers) from Thursday night's Wellington). REALLY DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should also mention that it wasn't even GOOD - but leftovers are for eating - so I ate a little more and then the bumps continued. Great. Saturday morning I woke up and the bumps moved over to my left side too. I went to the Doc in a Box - got a prescription(s) one for the cat scratch too! Luckily my mom flew in that same morning to help us with Connor/packing/HGTVing our house so she could tell/remind me that this same thing happened to me when I was Connor's age (so 30 years ago). My parents fed me my first egg around 8 or 9 months and I turned pink/purple/red all over and they really thought they had killed me. I survived with only an allergy to eggs (although I eat pankcakes and cookies, etc., just not egg eggs). I also have an allergy to mustard and mayo. (Never has a reaction been like this though - well not in 30 years). In order to make myself not want to eat these items I have convinced myself that they are utterly disgusting items that should never be eaten, period. In general this has worked and I have not knowingly eaten any of the offending items. After the Saturday breakout, Colin called the Club to determine what if anything was in the Wellington - although we will probably never know the true culprit - it appears it was an egg wash on the pastry that has caused these darn bumps - today is Wednesday (almost Thursday) and my mom and Colin say the bumps are getting better - but trust me - this is the slowest "better" I have even seen (did I mention that I am impatient???). Well, I am. I mean, hello, I am supposed to fly to Key West on Sunday and I have bumps all over me - I am scheduled to wear this really cute pink dress but how cute can it be with pink bumps??? NOT VERY!!! Anyway, so I am a little distressed about the bumps and stressed about the move but otherwise things are good.
So, you want to know where we are going to move??? Thought so . . . .
Starts with a B and is about 800 miles south of Baltimore! Yes, we are moving to BirmingHAM! Colin accepted a job with a great law firm and we are really looking forward to a fresh start. If you know someone that wants to move to Baltimore - we have a house available - for a great price/ deal!
Here is a quick picture of the 3 of us a few weeks ago at Heather and Matt's wedding in Alabama - the wedding was beautiful - a perfect day -

The happy couple! They were high school sweethearts who took about 12 years off!
